Step by Step Help

This is intended to be a guide to help you go step by step through the process of getting a Domain Name. These are intended to be helpful hints, but you do not need to follow them. Click on the one that fits you best.

I want to register a Domain Name that will be forwarded for free to an existing website.

I want to register 1 Domain Name that will have its own multi-page website

I want just the Domain Name. No website. No free forwarding to an existing website. Just the Name.

I registered the Domain Name & Free Domain Forwarding now I'm back to set up the Free Domain Forwarding.

I registered the Domain Name. Now I'm back to begin setting up my own multi-page website.

I want to register a Domain Name that will be forwarded for free to an existing website.

These are intended to be helpful hints, but you do not need to

follow them. If you want to follow these steps, just print this out

********************************************************************

STEP 1:

Go to www.WorldsGreatestName.com or if you are already there, click on the

Welcome Tab on the left hand side of the page.

**********************************************************

STEP 2
Type in the Domain name you want in the little white box.  No spaces,

all one word.  So if your name is Bob Smith and you want BobSmith.com,

then type in BobSmith  (If you want BobSmith.net, for example, instead of

BobSmith.com, click on the .com in the drop down box and change it to .net)

Then hit GO.

**********************************************************

STEP 3

The next page will tell you if the name you want is available.  If it's not, go

back to www.WorldsGreatestName.com and click on "What if my Name is

taken?" Assuming it is available, click on "CLICK HERE TO REGISTER"
***************************************************
STEP 4

In the drop down box, pick the number of years you want to register the

Domain Name for, ranging from 1 year to 10. The advantages to a multiple

year order are: (A) you avoid the hassle of having to renew it annually,

(B) you get a discount - 1 year is $9, 10 yrs at once comes out to just $8 a yr),

and (C) your price is locked in - meaning if the price goes up next year, it won't

effect you since you've already pre-paid for the multiple years.  Once you

pick the number of years you want, click CONTINUE.
****************************************************
STEP 5

Step 5-A: If you're a returning customer, type in your log in name & password. Assuming

you are new, ignore that box, & underneath it, provide Registrant Information.

Type in your first name, then hit TAB. Then your last name, then hit TAB. Type

in your current email address, then hit TAB.  For company name, if you're

registering this on behalf of a company, type in the company name & hit tab.  If

registering this for yourself, leave the Company Name space blank & hit TAB.

For Address - NOTE: Once you own a Domain Name, if somebody were to look it up, they

could see who owns it (you) & your contact information. If you are concerned about privacy, it

might help to list your BUSINESS address & BUSINESS phone number instead of your Home

Address & Number. With that in mind, for Address, type in your home or business

street address.  Hit TAB. For Address 2: Put an Apt # or Office Suite # if there

is one. If not, leave that line blank and hit TAB.   Type in your city. Hit TAB.

Pick your state from the drop down box. Hit TAB. Leave "Other State:" blank.

Hit TAB. Put in the zip code. Hit TAB. Country: Choose your country from the

drop down box. Hit tab. Give  your number (business or home, your preference).

Hit TAB.  Fax Number you can leave blank.

Step 5-B: At the bottom of the page, there is a box to check. Do not check it

if you left the company name line above blank.  If you left the company name

blank, and that box at the bottom is already checked, click on it to Un-check it.

Again, if you do not have anything in the company name line, then the box at

the bottom should be un-checked. If you do have a company name listed, then

the box should be checked. Click CONTINUE

***********************************************************
Step 6

On the next page, scroll down, look at your information (Name, address, etc...)

& see that it's correct. It should list it four times.  All four of those (at least

for now) should be you. No matter what, unless you are giving the Name to

someone as a gift, always leave yourself as the Registrant (that means you own

the Domain Name)....but for now, while you are registering the Domain Name,

just leave it as your name & info for all four sections. At the bottom of the page,

click CONTINUE
**********************************************************

Step 7: The Page is entitled Your Hosting/DNS Information

Since you plan to link your Domain Name to an existing website, click the hole

next to "I would like to forward this domain name to another website – just $0.00!"

Then click CONTINUE

****************************************************
Step 8: This Page is entitled Final Registration Details

Step 8-A: Look at the information and make sure it's correct. It should say the

Domain Name you picked, Length of Registration (number of yrs you chose &

how much that will cost), Type of Registration (the number of yrs again &

"Public") & Registration Info (your name & address).

Step 8-B: Under Renewal options: click the box that says Automatically Renew

or Renew Manually, whichever you prefer.

Step 8-C: Then the word "License Agreement" is highlighted. Click on that

& read it. It's long but it's important information including information about

owning domain names and how you can use it (ie creating a website to coordinate

criminal conduct is illegal and your Domain Name gets taken away from you).

After you read it, CAREFULLY click the "X" in the upper corner of that page

so it closes the License Agreement box only and takes you back to where you were.

Be careful that you don't accidentally click the "X" in the upper corner of the

whole website, which would mean you have to start back over. So just make

sure you are only closing the page with the License Agreement on it.

Then when you return to the process, click the box verifying you've read the

License Agreement. Then hit CONTINUE
**********************************************************
Step 9: Next Page: Domain Essentials & Confirmation
Assuming you are only ordering one Domain Name at a time and that you

properly clicked on Domain Forwarding for $0.00 a couple pages back, there's

nothing you need to do here. So just scroll to the bottom of this page and click

CONTINUE.   If you are ordering more than one Domain Name at a time, click

on the box and order a "Domain Forwarding" for each of the Domain Names

you're getting. It's free, but you have to order it any way. So if you are getting

3 Domain Names, click "3" on the Drop Down Box for Domain Forwardings.

Then hit CONTINUE
***********************************************************
Step 10: This Page is Register a Domain Name
It should say what you're ordering. So, for example, if you're getting 1
Domain

Name, then it should say 1 Domain Name, 1 Domain Forwarding. Assuming it's

correct, Hit CONTINUE
**************************************************************
Step 11: This page looks like an itemized list of what you ordered.

Step 11-A: You should have 1 Domain Name with a total price based on how

many years you ordered it. One year, the Total Price should say $9.00.  Ten years,

the Total Price should say $80.00 ..& it should say..1 Domain Forwarding with a total

price of $0.00. If anything else appears in your cart (ie if it says you are ordering the

same domain name a second time...just click delete next to one of them). Underneath it,

hit UPDATE CART (if you made any changes).

Step 11-B: After that, if you are ordering a 2nd Domain Name, hit SHOP MORE, then

repeat the process for the additional Domain Name. Assuming you are ordering only

one domain name, hit CHECK OUT.
****************************************************************
Step 12: This Page is called Billing Information
Step 12-A Assuming the Shipping & Billing should be the same address,

click the Yes Box. Then make sure the contact information provided is correct.

Step 12-B: At the bottom of the page, Pick a Log In Name (ie if your name is

Robert Smith, maybe you go with "rsmith23" as the log in name), then hit TAB.

Remember the Log In Name is case sensitive so make a note of whether you use

capital letters.

Step 12-C: Type in a password (which must be at least 5 characters long) & hit

TAB and then type it in again, then type in a password hint that would remind

you and only you what the password is. Note: The Password is also case

sensitive.   Also note: write down the log in name and password somewhere

you won't lose them.  And never share the password with anyone.

Step 12-D:
To the right of that, in the Stay Informed box, click on Don't Notify

Me (assuming you don't want any excess e-mail). At the bottom, hit CONTINUE

WITH CHECK OUT
***********************************************************

Step 13: Next Page: Privacy Statement
There will be a faint number on the right side.Move the cursor to the

box underneath & type in the number above the box. This is a security

thing (You don't need to know the number in the future). Click VERIFY CODE
***********************************************************
Step 14: Next Page: Pay by Credit Card
Type in Name exactly as it appears on your Credit Card, hit TAB. Then type

in card number, hit TAB. Pick type of credit card from drop down box, hit TAB.

Set the Card's Expiration date from drop down box, hit TAB. For Card verification

- type in the little number on the card (or click on one of the other options if they

apply like 'I can't read the number').

AND THEN DON'T DO ANYTHING!!!!!! WAIT!!!!!!!!!

At the bottom of this page, it says COMPLETE YOUR PURCHASE. As it notes

right above that, each time you click that button, it will ring your account. SO PUT

THE CURSOR ON "COMPLETE YOUR PURCHASE" AND ONLY CLICK IT ONCE.

DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK IT. And patiently wait a few seconds.  Don't get anxious

and re-click it right away or double click it.   ONLY CLICK IT ONCE. And that

should be it.  Print out the receipt for your records.
****************************************************************

Important Side Notes:

(A) Remember to keep your Log In Name & Password somewhere safe. Never share

the  Password with anyone.

(B) Once you've registered your Domain Name, be sure to double click on

"LOG OUT" - especially if you did it on a publicly used computer!!! (LOG OUT

is usually in the upper right corner)

(C) Once you register your name, if you type it into the internet, you will not see

it working right away. It takes about 24-48 hours for it to start working.

(D) Remember if you change addresses or phone numbers or emails down the road,

come back to www.WorldsGreatestName.com, clicking on Current

Clients - Log In, typing in your Log In & Password, & updating your information.

(E) If you get an email from anyone claiming to be WorldsGreatestName.com or

IdeaList Enterprises, Inc. -- be very cautious. Remember it could be someone who

simply looked up your Domain Name in the Internet Directory and saw that you

registered the Name through our service. So be very careful before assuming

it is real -- especially if they ask for personal information or your password!

(F) To set up the Domain Forwarding Link (so that people who type in your

Domain Name are re-directed to a website that already exists), LOG OUT and then

just come back to www.WorldsGreatestName.com, click on Step by Step Help

and then click on "I registered my Domain Name and now I'm back to set up my

Free Domain Forwarding Link."

Important Side Notes:

(A) Remember to keep your Log In Name & Password somewhere safe. Never share the

Password with anyone.

(B) Once you've registered your Domain Name, be sure to double click on

"LOG OUT" - especially if you did it on a publicly used computer!!! (LOG OUT

is usually in the upper right corner)

(C) Once you register your name, since you are not building a website or forwarding

it for free to an existing website, if people type in the Domain Name address, nothing

will come up.  You will be the registrant of the Domain Name, but nothing will show up

when people go to it.

(F) If you decide at some point, you would like to have your Domain Name forwarded

for free to an existing website, just come back to www.WorldsGreatestName.com,

click on Current Clients - Log In, type in your Log In & Password (remember they're

case sensitive), and order "1" Free Domain Forwarding unit. Then LOG OUT. Then

return to  www.WorldsGreatestName.com, click on Step by Step Help and then

click on "I registered my Domain Name and now I'm back to set up my Free Domain

Forwarding Link."

I registered the Domain Name & Free Domain Forwarding now I'm back to set up the Free Domain Forwarding.

SETTING UP FREE DOMAIN FORWARDING

Once you have the Domain Name registered & you've ordered the Free

Domain Forwarding, then you can set up the Free Domain Forwarding

so it links your Domain Name to an existing website (like your company's

website or even the specific page about you on your company's website).   *****************************************************

Decide which of these sentences apply to you and proceed accordingly:

(A) "I want to forward my Domain Name to an existing website"

(Example: www.MarkCuban.com forwards to the website for the NBA Mavericks).

(B) "I want to forward my Domain Name to a specific page on an existing site."

(Example: www.AlanDershowitz.com forwards to the specific page about

Alan Dershowitz on Harvard Law School's website.

If (A) applies to you, scroll down to (A). If (B) applies to you, scroll down to (B)

************************************************************

(A) "I want to forward my Domain Name to an existing website"

Go to www.WorldsGreatestName.com. On the home page, click on "Current

Clients - Log In." Then enter Log In Name. Hit TAB. Enter Password. Hit TAB.

Remember Log In & Password are case sensitive. Then click on Domain

Forwarding. Then click on Set Up Forwarding. Then put the cursor in the long

white space where you can put where you want the Domain Forwarded to and

type in http://www. (and then the Domain Name of the website where you want it

forwarded to). So if it's Kraft Foods, type in http://www.KraftFoods.com   and

then hit SAVE SETTINGS. Scroll past (B) below to read important other notes.

***************************************************************

(B) "I want to forward my Domain Name to a specific page on an existing site."

Go to the specific page on the existing website you want your Domain to forward to.

When you get there, look at the long white bar at the top of the page.  That is the

Domain Address of that specific page.  It might be very, very long.  Highlight the

entire thing.  Then while it is highlighted, hold down "CONTROL" Key on your

keyboard and hit "C" at the same time.  Then go to www.WorldsGreatestName.com,

click on Current Clients - Log In, enter your Log In Name. Hit TAB. Enter Password.

Hit TAB. (Remember they're case sensitive). Then click on Domain Forwarding. Then

Click on Set Up Forwarding. Then put the cursor in the long white space where you can

put where you want the Domain Forwarded to, and hold down the "CONTROL" Key on

your keyboard and hit "V" at the same time.  That long address you highlighted a few

moments ago should pop up in that white space.  Assuming it worked correctly, hit SAVE

SETTINGS.  And then LOG OUT in the upper right corner.  You should be all set.

*******************************************************************

Important Other Notes:

(1) Remember, if you are setting up Domain Forwarding just a few minutes after

registering your Domain Name, it's going to take 24-48 hours for the Domain

Name to show up online. So even if you just did it right, it will take a day or two

for it to show up. So if you just registered the Domain Name, after 24-48 hours, start

typing in your Domain Name, and if you did it right, you will be re-directed to the

website, or the specific page on the website, where you had it forwarded.

(2) If at some point, you want to change where the Domain Name is forwarded

(ie if you switch companies, and you want to re-direct it to the page about you

on the website of your new company), simply repeat the steps above, except instead

of clicking on Set Up Forwarding, click on Edit Forwarding.  Erase the link where you

did have it going to and type in the new one. So if you have BobSmith.com and

it was going to www.KraftFoods.com, and now you want it going to

www.AppleComputers.com, just erase http://www.KraftFoods.com, type in

http://www.AppleComputers.com, then hit SAVE SETTINGS.  Then give it

about 30 minutes to kick in.

I registered the Domain Name. Now I'm back to begin setting up my own multi-page website.

Now you need to build a website (or have it built for you) and select an ISP Provider

(a Host). Think of it like this. There are 3 parts to the process: Domain Name (which

you now have),  having a website built for you by a web developer, or getting a do-it-

yourself web-building program (that allows you to build the website)...and then a Host

to whom you pay a monthly fee in exchange for putting your website 'up' on the internet

where people can see it.   The best way to proceed? It's such an individualized process

that we'd say talk to friends and ask them for recommendations.  In some cases, you

can find a Host that has an inclusive web-building program -- meaning if you pay them

the monthly fee to host your website, they provide you the do-it-yourself software to

build the website.  Make sure to ask: "What do I do to make sure my Domain Name is

pointed  correctly at your Server?"
